At United Community, we know that lasting self-sufficiency begins with removing the barriers that hold families and individuals back.
Each year, we meet community members where they are. For each family or individual that means something different and the right support is critical.
From a lack of childcare, to legal support, and access to healthy food, we meet our community where they are and help build the path towards self sufficiency for them to own their journey.
Last year, our food pantry provided more than 1.1 Million pounds of nutritious food to nearly 1,000 families. But our approach goes beyond just distribution. We aim to promote a healthy balance of necessary nutrition for each community member that needs our support.
Our families can come to us with the expectation and understanding that they will receive nutritionally balanced groceries that will help set them and their family up for success long-term.
Our Early Learning Center serves children ages six weeks to five years, offering licensed, developmental care that feels like home. With a child-centered approach and a curriculum rooted in compassion and growth, we supported 78 children and their families last year.
Our Early Learning Center not only provides a safe welcoming environment, but focuses on holistically supporting every need of the child. They will learn, grow, communicate, and expand their minds with our staff’s support.
Through our Progreso Literacy and Citizenship Center, 170 adults took part in English language and literacy programs in 2024 alone.
With a team of dedicated volunteers and professionals, our educators help participants build communication skills, confidence, and connection. Opening the door to employment, community involvement, and belonging.
It not only provides safety but creates belonging, confidence, and opportunity. Through our Progreso Citizenship Program, five dedicated instructors guide participants through the entire process, from study sessions to interview preparation.
In the past year, 88 community members achieved citizenship, unlocking the ability to fully participate in their communities and pursue long-term goals with security and pride.
Without access to trusted and affordable legal support, it can be one of the most difficult barriers to overcome. With a full-time staff attorney and a network of pro bono legal partners, we provided legal guidance to 83 individuals this year. From housing issues to family law to immigration cases, our legal support helps protect rights and restore stability.
Through partnerships with local employers, we co-create customized training programs and internships that align with in-demand roles.
In 2024, 106 community members gained new skills through our Family Achievement Program. They developed both the technical and interpersonal tools needed to secure long-term, sustainable careers.
Many families and individuals enter our programs after years of isolation or disappointment from systems that failed to meet their needs.
Our process creates a welcoming entry point where every person is met with dignity and care. From that first conversation, we build individualized pathways that reflect each individual’s goals.
Every community member that trusts our team to help guide them gains access to wraparound services designed to help them thrive.
Each year, over 350 volunteers dedicate their time, energy, and compassion to support their neighbors through United Community’s programs. Whether distributing food, teaching in classrooms, or lending professional skills, our volunteers help remove barriers and replace them with opportunity.
Every volunteer hour invested brings our community closer to self sufficiency. Our volunteers are the engine that helps United Community push closer towards creating a thriving community where every family has the power, tools, and support to confidently shape their future.
