Adult Education That Builds Confidence
Language opens doors to work, education, and connection. Progreso offers four levels of ESL and English Conversation classes ranging from beginner to advanced as well as Digital Literacy and Job Preparation classes. All are designed to help adults gain confidence to participate in their community and pursue new opportunities for themselves and their families.
Trusted Legal & Immigration Support
Navigating immigration systems can be overwhelming. Our staff attorney and pro bono partners provide culturally aware legal representation and advocacy for issues like housing disputes, work permits, family reunification, and domestic violence.
Citizenship Preparation That Changes Lives
Becoming a U.S. citizen is more than a milestone — it’s a foundation for stability and participation. We offer citizenship classes, test preparation, and interview support, guiding community members through every step with care and encouragement.

About the Progreso Center Services
Adults and families living in Fairfax County who need support with English language learning, immigration paperwork, legal guidance, or citizenship preparation are welcome. Our services are designed to support immigrants, English learners, and multilingual families in southern Fairfax County.
Most classes are offered at very low cost. Progreso offers flexible scheduling of ESL classes and affordable fees on a sliding scale not to exceed $60 per semester, including textbooks and online curriculum. We also offer a fee waiver for those who are disabled and/or homeless.
ESL classes are 1 ½ hours long twice a week and are held in both daytime and evening sessions.
Our staff attorney and pro bono partners assist with immigration paperwork, work permits, family reunification, housing concerns, safety issues, and other civil legal needs. If we cannot help directly, we connect you to trusted partners who can.
To apply for citizenship, most applicants need a green card, proof of continuous residence, tax records, and other identity documents. Our team can help explain what’s required and guide you through each step of the application.
The citizenship test includes an English reading/writing component and a civics test with questions about U.S. history and government. We offer classes, study materials, and practice interviews to help you feel confident and prepared.
We help learners at all levels — from beginner to advanced — build the skills needed to talk to teachers, employers, healthcare providers, and neighbors with confidence.
Conversation classes are taught by 16 trained volunteers, most of whom are retired teachers.
Progreso uses the Ventures adult curriculum which Aligns with the new National Reporting System (NRS) for Adult Education descriptors while covering key English Language Proficiency, College and Career Readiness Standards, and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) requirements.
