The Progreso Literacy & Citizenship Center in Alexandria provides safety, opportunity, and a welcoming environment for families working to build their future in Fairfax County. Every class, consultation, and conversation creates connection and helps our neighbors build confidence, security, and hope.
Our classes are designed to give every learner a strong foundation for success.
Language Education That Builds Confidence
Language opens doors to work, education, and connection. Progreso offers four levels of ESL and English Conversation classes ranging from beginner to advanced.  All are designed to help adults gain confidence to participate in their community and pursue new opportunities for themselves and their families.
Trusted Legal & Immigration Support
Navigating immigration systems can be overwhelming. Our staff attorney and pro bono partners provide culturally aware legal representation and advocacy for issues like work permits, family reunification, and domestic violence.
Citizenship Preparation That Changes Lives
Becoming a U.S. citizen is more than a milestone — it’s a foundation for stability and participation. We offer citizenship classes, test preparation, and interview support, guiding community members through every step with care and encouragement.
Community Connection
Each class and consultation builds more than knowledge — it builds belonging. Students often go on to volunteer, mentor others, and take leadership roles in their neighborhoods, strengthening Fairfax County’s diverse and vibrant community.
