MEMORIAL DAY: United Community is closed on May 30th, 2022

Special Update

Dear Friends and Supporters of United Community,

It is with both sadness and gratitude that I announce that Alison DeCourcey has resigned from her position as President and Chief Executive Officer of United Community after more than six years of service. Her last day at United Community will be June 30, 2023. We wish her the absolute best as she takes time off now to be with her family, and in all her future endeavors.

The Board of Directors is very grateful to Alison for her energy, compassion, and dedication to our organization and our community. She significantly elevated the impact that United Community has on the community we serve. She built a strong leadership team and guided the organization through the Covid pandemic with agility and resilience as we experienced an extraordinary increase in the need for our services. We are positioned better than ever to pursue our vision of ending multigenerational poverty, not merely serving poverty.

Over the next few months, with input from a broad cross-section of our stakeholders, we are committed to find a leader who embraces the values and voices of the communities we serve. I have every confidence in our ability to make this a seamless transition. Bryant Rice, our current chief operating officer, will serve as Interim CEO until we permanently fill the position. We have appointed a search committee composed of representatives of the Board of Directors, United Community team, and our community to find the best candidate for our new CEO.

If you have any questions about this transition, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at 202 256-5764 or by email at boardchair@unitedcommunity.org.

Thank you for your continued support of United Community.

Sincerely,

Thomas J. Curcio
Board Chair

Dear Friends,

United Community has never been just a job for me, but a large part of who I am and a great source of pride. That is why it is difficult to share that after 6 years as President & CEO, I will be leaving the organization.

I can promise you that this decision did not come lightly. I am leaving an organization I absolutely love. I am inspired daily by a team with unparalleled talents, constant drive for excellence, and a willingness to inject quite a bit of fun along the way. I work with and have been supported by a talented Board of Directors. I have been deeply motivated by community members, volunteers, partners, donors, and volunteers. As an organization focused on racial and social equity, with the audacious goal of Ending Multigenerational Poverty, I am inspired by United Community’s deep commitment to our diverse community and prioritizing community voice and leadership in our work.
While I am proud of the accomplishments of United Community over the past several years, they are not about me. They are about you. You have trusted, supported, and partnered with our team as we have taken bold leaps and work diligently on an audacious goal to end multigenerational poverty in our community, while living our values of Unity, Empathy, Collaboration, Accountability, and Integrity.

At this time, my responsibilities as a mother, daughter and wife call me to step back from my role. I remain steadfast in my support of United Community, knowing the strides of the past several years have led it to its next stage of growth and impact. I am excited to see what lies ahead. I have no doubt that it will be remarkable.

Working on behalf of this community has been one of my greatest honors. I look forward to our continued work together as donors, supporters, and volunteers. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for United Community and the thousands for who call our community “home.”

We truly are a United Community.

Sincerely,

Alison DeCourcey
