Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)
Help end multi-generational poverty by recommending a gift through your financial institution or foundation.
What is a DAF?
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a philanthropic giving vehicle that provides an immediate tax benefit to you, and allows you to grant funds to charities of your choice.
How do I give through a DAF?
- Recommend a DAF gift through your institution or foundation. Submit your grant recommendation online (via DAF Direct or your provider). Unless you request otherwise, United Community will only receive the fund’s name and address.
- Work directly with your fund manager. Ask your manager to designate a grant to United Community for your chosen amount. They will send the check directly on your behalf.
When granting through your donor-advised fund, please use the following information:

Volunteer
Give Time. Grow Impact. Transform Lives.
At United Community, volunteers are the heart of our mission. Every hour you give, every hand you lend, helps families along the Route 1 corridor and throughout Fairfax County move from crisis to stability and from surviving to thriving. By donating your time, you help reduce operational costs, allowing more resources to go directly toward programs that feed, educate, and empower our neighbors in need.
Together, we create a stronger, more connected community where every neighbor has the opportunity to thrive (or transform lives).
Share your time and talents where they’re needed most. From sorting food and packing produce to assisting in our Early Learning Center or helping at community events—there’s a role for every interest and schedule.
Current Volunteer Needs:
- Skilled volunteers (photography, videography, social media, marketing)
- Event-Based Volunteers (face painter, entertainer, etc)
- Administrative Volunteers (research, data entry, mailing)
- Food Pantry Volunteers
- English as a Second Language teachers
- Youth-Based volunteers to lead educational sessions (soccer coach, yoga instructor, art teacher)
Corporate teams, faith-based groups, and community organizations are welcome!
Group volunteer days offer a powerful way to build teamwork, give back, and make a visible impact together. Projects can be customized to match your group’s size and goals.
How to Become a Volunteer:
2.
Once approved, you will be contacted within two weeks with volunteer orientation information and to schedule your first activity.
3.
At your first volunteer activity, a United Community staff member will greet you with a welcome packet and introduce you to the program staff who will train you and work with you.
4.
After your first activity, a staff member will reach out talk about your experience and provide information about volunteer for additional opportunities.
