Thanks to a generous gift from Fairfax County, United Community has doubled the cold storage capacity for our food program. Our new walk-in fridge and freezer provided by the County were installed at the beginning of May and we couldn’t be more pleased.
Because we now have four units at our Fordson Road food pantry, United Community is able to store more fresh produce and frozen goods to distribute to those experiencing food insecurity. In 2021, United Community served 6,984 neighbors with our food pantry and mobile food distribution. This is only possible because of partners like Fairfax County; local grocery stores who regularly donate fresh produce and frozen, dried, and canned goods; and financial support from the community.
