Sacramento Families Explore the Environment

United Community’s Sacramento Neighborhood Center participated in Fairfax County NAACP’s Family Fun Day at Mount Vernon Woods Park on Saturday, June 4. Families enjoyed eco-friendly activities and learned more about environmental resources in the community. Community members of all ages enjoyed an afternoon of environmental exploration, including bird watching, counting caterpillars, and flower dying. Families also made DIY binoculars, participated in recycling relay races, and played other outdoor games.

Second THRIVE Graduation Held

THRIVE program continues to help adults become workforce ready! United Community’s Sacramento Neighborhood Center (SNC) held a graduation brunch last week to honor this round’s THRIVE participants for their hard work and dedication to gaining new skills. SNC developed THRIVE (Together Helping Reintroduce Individuals to Valuable Education) as a 10-week course to help adults develop computer skills, engage in health and wellness activities, and become more workforce ready.

Dinner is Served

The after-school snacks at our Community Centers just got better! United Community’s Creekside Village Community Center and Sacramento Neighborhood Center are now providing nutritious dinners during their after-school programs! The 60+ youth enrolled in Success through Purpose, Achievement, Respect, and Knowledge (SPARK) will be able to come to the centers for tutoring, fun activities, and a full meal.
